Barlby Surgery hosted an important visit on Friday 5th June 2015, welcoming a Chilean delegation of politicians, dignitaries and senior health professionals on the request of Healthcare UK, demonstrating the world class services, patient care and best practices delivered by the NHS.

The team at Barlby Surgery delivered exceptional hospitality to their guests, a very informative tour around the state-of-the-art facilities and an edifying presentation followed by a detailed question and answer session.

The delegation included Mayors, environmental and health councillors as well as senior health professionals representing various Chilean municipalities.

Dr Mohammed Tahir, AT Medics GP Director and Founder and Lead GP at Barlby Surgery commented “It was our pleasure to host the delegation from Chile and to act as ambassadors of the NHS is always our honour. Barlby Surgery personifies the exemplary standards of service that AT Medics is renowned for delivering and so it’s the perfect place to demonstrate facilities, staff, services, patient care and best practices to friends from abroad wishing to learn about an unmatched primary care model.”

Dr Mohammed Jiwani, Clinical Lead GP at Barlby Surgery and Pal Bhambra, Senior Manager AT Medics delivered the presentation and tour to the guests and shared in-depth practical knowledge about general practice, how the financial model for NHS operates in the UK and responded to the keen interest in the innovations that AT Medics delivers to UK Primary Care.

Pablo Santiago Astete Mermoud, Mayor of Villarrica and a Senior Obstetrician thanked the team at Barlby and expressed that he and his colleagues were very much impressed and enlightened, extending reciprocal invitations to join them in Chile and presenting gifts to their hosts in gratitude for their efforts and a productive visit.

Richard Leach, Healthcare UK’s Assistant Director for Latin America said “It’s not easy to demonstrate heritage, change, innovation and excellence in a single visit but I think the Barlby Surgery did all of this for the Chilean delegation. Our health system is the best in the world and when visitors come to see it, it is all too easy to focus on the physical aspects: wards, operating theatres and medical devices but the keys to our success are the commitment of our people and our General Practice system. Barlby Surgery’s unerring focus on putting the patient at the centre of care greatly impressed the party and we hope to work with Chile in the future to develop their own primary care system.”
