Camden CCG has awarded AT Medics the contract to provide an extended GP access service in Camden, following a robust process and subject to due diligence and agreement of final contract documentation.
The service will make it easier for patients in Camden to see a GP through offering same day and pre-bookable GP appointments at accessible locations from 8am-8pm, 7 days a week.
AT Medics are GP led and have a good understanding of the needs of Camden patients through running King’s Cross Surgery at St. Pancras Hospital, as well as nearby Mitchison Road Surgery and Hanley Primary Care Centre in Islington. In addition, they provide 33 other primary care sites in London and GP Hub and extended hours services in Croydon, Hammersmith & Fulham and Lambeth.
The expert panel which recommended the appointment included non-conflicted clinicians, a local patient and a Healthwatch Camden representative.
The way the new service operates will be co-designed with Camden patients, GPs and other stakeholders and will offer an enhanced version of the borough’s existing evening and weekend GP appointments service.
Camden CCG Assistant Director of Primary Care, Rebecca Thornley said: “AT Medics has a strong record of working in partnership with patients and health and social care services to deliver high performing seven day GP services in London.
“We look forward to working with them to make it easier for Camden patients to see a GP at a time that’s convenient for them.”
GP Director of AT Medics, Dr Aumran Tahir said: “We are delighted to be engaging with local patients and GPs to co-design an enhanced extended hours service in Camden.
We will combine our local knowledge together with our experience of delivering a good standard of care to 250,000 patients across London, and through continuous patient feedback we aim to provide a service that is truly patient-centric.”
The service will launch in 2017. Patients can continue to book an evening or weekend GP appointment through Camden’s existing service.
