Silverlock Medical Centre is pleased to announce that it is now a Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre.

Yellow fever is a serious viral infection that is spread by certain types of mosquito. It is mainly found in sub-Saharan Africa, South America and parts of the Caribbean. The yellow fever vaccine is given as a single injection and provides protection for 95-100% of those who have it. This protection lasts at least 10 years and may even be life-long.

Yellow fever vaccinations can only be given at designated centres. For a centre to become a designated yellow fever vaccination centre it must register with the appropriate authority and in England this is the National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC). Nurse June Whittaker at Silverlock Medical Centre has completed the necessary training for the practice.

The yellow fever vaccination service will be open to all patients of Silverlock Medical Centre and will also soon be accessible to patients from other local AT Medics practices in Southwark; Queens Road Surgery and The Hambleden Clinic.

Silverlock Medical Centre advises all patients planning to travel to an area where they may be at risk of yellow fever to make sure they are vaccinated at least 10 days before making their trip.
